Ski Touring

The Dachstein is often called “Austria’s Ski Touring Eldorado” – and for good reason. The high-alpine terrain around the Dachstein Glacier offers some of the most spectacular ski touring, backcountry skiing and alpine ski mountaineering routes in the Austrian Alps.

From the top station of the Dachstein South Face Cable Car, around 16 ski tours, glacier crossings and steep alpine descents begin. These routes lead through breathtaking glacier landscapes, high alpine plateaus and powder slopes in the famous Schladming-Dachstein Region.

One of the most popular ski touring routes in Austria also starts here – the legendary Dachstein Glacier Crossing from Ramsau am Dachstein across the glacier to either Hallstatt or Obertraun.

This iconic 25 km high-alpine ski tour is partly groomed and therefore also suitable for intermediate ski tourers, while still offering the unforgettable experience of travelling through one of the most dramatic glacier ski touring areas in the Alps.
